The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) says there are no plans at present to discontinue the QR code system used for fuel distribution in Sri Lanka.
CPC Managing Director Mayura Neththikumara said the decision was influenced by volatility in global fuel prices and ongoing geopolitical tensions.
He noted that the QR system helps regulate fuel consumption, allowing the country to better manage its limited foreign exchange reserves required for fuel imports. The system would also help prevent fuel shortages and long queues if global conflicts further disrupt energy markets.
The Managing Director added that Sri Lanka's fuel supply network has not been affected by the current global situation and assured that all necessary precautionary measures have been taken to ensure an uninterrupted fuel supply to consumers.
