A police constable attached to the Makulugaswewa Police Station has been suspended following allegations of misconduct involving a female police constable.
According to police sources, the incident occurred after the constable returned to the police station upon completing security duties at a musical show held at the Dambulla Gam Udawa Grounds on July 15.
It is alleged that the constable attempted to sit on the lap of a female police constable who was seated at the station. The female officer subsequently lodged a complaint through the Officer-in-Charge to the Assistant Superintendent of Police in charge of the area.
A preliminary investigation reportedly found that the constable was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Following the disciplinary inquiry into the alleged attempt to harass the female officer and being intoxicated while on duty, the police constable has been suspended from service.
