The United States has reduced its tariff on Sri Lankan exports to 10%, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, Sri Lanka's Ambassador to the United States Mahinda Samarasinghe said.

According to the Ambassador, the outcome was achieved through timely guidance from the President, targeted negotiations by the Sri Lankan delegation, continuous coordination and the dedicated efforts of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington, D.C.

The Sri Lankan delegation comprised Treasury Secretary Harshana Suriyapperuma, Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Trade Secretary M. Vimalendrarajah, Chief Economic Adviser and Chairman of the Board of Investment Duminda Hulangamuwa, and Ambassador Mahinda Samarasinghe.

Ambassador Samarasinghe said the positive outcome reflects the strong bilateral relationship between Sri Lanka and the United States and the collective efforts of the Sri Lankan negotiating team.

Noting that his tenure as Sri Lanka's Ambassador to the United States will conclude in the coming days, he stressed the importance of sustaining the gains achieved and remaining committed to overcoming future challenges.

He also said that if all stakeholders work together, setting aside political differences for the benefit of the country, Sri Lanka can achieve even greater success.
