Public Urged to Avoid Open-Paper Vehicle Sales

The Department of Motor Traffic has urged the public to refrain from selling vehicles under “Open Papers” in the future.

Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, retired Air Vice Marshal Thushara Indunil Fernando, said that when transferring ownership of a vehicle, both the transferor and transferee must sign the relevant ‘MTA 6’ document and ensure that the required copy is submitted to the Department of Motor Traffic.

He further stated that the main objectives of this decision are to control various illegal activities carried out using vehicles in the country and to protect the general public from individuals involved in such fraudulent activities.
