Suspect Arrested for Printing Counterfeit Currency

A 53-year-old suspect has been arrested by the Western Province South District Crime Division for allegedly printing counterfeit currency notes at a communication centre in Mirihana.

The suspect was arrested during a raid conducted by a team of officers from the Western Province South District Crime Division at a communication centre on Kotte Road in the Mirihana Police Division on the morning of August 8, 2026, based on information received by the police.

The suspect, a resident of Pitakotte, is the owner of the communication centre, police said.

Seven counterfeit Rs.5,000 notes, six Rs.1,000 notes and one Rs.500 note were among the items seized during the raid.

Police also seized a computer, a scanner, a printer, a pen drive, a paper cutter and a ruler believed to have been used in the alleged operation.

The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court on August 9, 2026.

The Western Province South District Crime Division is conducting further investigations into the incident.
