Additional funds exceeding Rs.237 million have been allocated to accelerate the “Ceylon Tea Village” 500 tea village project.
The Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment plans to allocate Rs.68 million to establish model tea cultivations in the initial 144 tea villages launched by the Small Tea Estate Development Authority, and Rs.169 million to develop quality tea nurseries.
The “Ceylon Tea Village” programme is being implemented with the aim of achieving the national target of increasing Sri Lanka’s made tea production to 400 million kilograms and raising tea export earnings to USD 2.5 billion by 2030.
