A Polonnaruwa-based company has been fined Rs. 1 million for supplying red Nadu rice to the market at Rs. 225 per kilogram in 2022, exceeding the maximum retail price of Rs. 220 set by the Consumer Affairs Authority.
The case was filed by the Consumer Affairs Authority against New Rathna Rice (Private) Limited and its directors for allegedly violating the provisions and directives of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act.
The case was taken up before the Polonnaruwa Magistrate’s Court on August 6, where the court delivered its verdict.
According to the ruling, the Polonnaruwa Magistrate’s Court found New Rathna Rice (Private) Limited guilty of the relevant charge.
The court subsequently imposed a fine of Rs. 1 million on the company for violating the rules and directives issued under the Consumer Affairs Authority Act.
The case had been filed by the Consumer Affairs Authority before the Polonnaruwa Magistrate’s Court.
