Fuel Import Costs Rise 61.6%

According to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka spent USD 4,072.1 million on fuel imports from January to August 2026.

This represents a 61.6% increase compared with the USD 2,520.6 million spent on fuel imports during the same period in 2025.

Meanwhile, fuel import expenditure in August 2026 alone increased by 76.5% compared with August last year.

Accordingly, fuel import costs in August rose to USD 450.6 million.
