Turkish Airlines has expressed regret over the damage caused to the sporting equipment of Sri Lankan athlete Rumesha Tharanga when he returned to the country.
The Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation stated this in a statement.
The airline’s representatives expressed their regret during a meeting held yesterday (15) between officials of the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation and representatives of Turkish Airlines regarding the incident.
It was also decided to conduct the necessary internal investigations into the incident, assess the damage caused to the equipment and take steps to provide compensation as soon as possible.
Rumesha Tharanga returned to Sri Lanka early yesterday (15) after competing at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship held in Hungary.
However, all five javelins he had taken for the competition were reportedly completely damaged during the air journey.
The five javelins are reportedly worth approximately Rs. 2 million.
