The Colombo International Kite Festival 2026 will be held on Saturday, 08 August and Sunday, 09 August 2026, at Galle Face Green, Colombo.
As part of the opening ceremony, a vehicle parade will commence at 9.00 a.m. on Saturday, 08 August. The parade will travel through several main roads in Colombo, including Galle Face Roundabout, Kollupitiya Junction, Dharmapala Mawatha, Liberty Roundabout, R.A. De Mel Mawatha, Bambalapitiya Junction, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Thummulla, Horton Place, Lipton Roundabout, D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha, Regal Junction, Lotus Road, N.S.A. Roundabout and Port City.
The public and motorists are requested to avoid the above routes during the parade and use alternative roads, as traffic congestion is expected. Police traffic officers will be deployed to manage traffic flow and provide assistance.
The Kite Festival and Musical Concert, which are open to the public, will be held on Sunday, 09 August. Around 1,000 police officers, including 300 traffic officers and 700 police personnel, will be deployed to ensure public safety and smooth traffic management.
Visitors attending the event are advised to use designated parking facilities, including MOD Grounds Car Park, Concrete Car Park near Shangri-La, Chaithya Road, York Street, Leyden Bastion Road, Port City premises, Sea Road Seaside Car Park and other identified locations.
Paid parking facilities will also be available at Access Tower Car Park, Union Place, Private Car Park near Gamini Roundabout, Lower Ground Car Park opposite Lake House, Chamas Car Park and Old Manning Market Car Park.
Authorities have requested media institutions to provide wide publicity regarding the traffic arrangements and parking facilities to minimise inconvenience to the public during the festival.
