The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning of strong lightning for the Uva and Eastern provinces, as well as the Mullaitivu and Polonnaruwa districts.
The Department said there is an increased possibility of strong lightning accompanied by thundershowers in several areas during the evening or night today (18).
The warning was issued at 11.00 a.m. today and will remain valid until 11.30 p.m.
The Department also warned that temporarily strong winds may occur in these areas during thundershowers.
The public has been advised to take necessary safety precautions to minimise the risks associated with lightning.
