A total of 860 new HIV cases have been identified in Sri Lanka over the past year, according to the National STD/AIDS Control Programme.
Sri Lanka is among 21 countries worldwide where the number of HIV infections is increasing, the programme has reported.
Accordingly, the total number of registered HIV-positive individuals in Sri Lanka has increased to 7,403.
Health authorities said that by the end of the fourth quarter of last year, HIV tests had been conducted on 1,217,419 people across the country.
