Marvel fans are closely following Spider-Man: Brand New Day as the latest Spider-Man film has broken the highest American opening weekend box office record in cinema history.
The movie earned a massive USD 360 million during its opening weekend, surpassing the previous record held by Avengers: Endgame, which collected USD 357 million during its opening weekend in 2019.
With this achievement, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has overtaken Avengers: Endgame’s opening revenue record. The two films remain the only movies in history to cross the USD 300 million mark during an opening weekend.
Starring Tom Holland as Spider-Man, the film earned USD 932 million worldwide within its first three days of release, making it the second-highest global opening in cinema history. The top position is still held by Avengers: Endgame with a worldwide opening revenue of USD 1.2 billion.
Sony Pictures Chairman Tom Rothman praised the cast and crew for the success, saying the team is proud of achieving such a historic milestone.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues the story after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. With the world forgetting Peter Parker and even MJ and Ned no longer remembering him, Peter fights alone to protect New York City.
Film analysts predict that the movie could eventually cross the USD 2 billion mark at the global box office due to its strong audience response.
