A special intelligence operation has been launched on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police to identify and monitor parties organised through Facebook and the locations where they are held.
Police Media Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police F. U. Wootler said the main objective of the operation is to prevent young people from being exposed to drug use and trafficking through such parties.
As part of the operation, police raided a party organised through Facebook in the Theldeniya Police Division and arrested 41 young people.
Police have warned that organised criminals and drug networks are organising such parties as money-making ventures and using Facebook parties as a means of getting young people addicted to drugs.
The Police Media Spokesperson has urged parents to closely monitor sudden changes in their children’s conversations, behaviour and daily movements.
Police have revealed that 175 people, including 172 males and three females, died by suicide in 2025 due to the drug crisis.
Meanwhile, 11 deaths caused by drug use have been reported so far in 2026.
