The Sri Lankan government is preparing to introduce a Metro Bus service in Kandy as part of a major transport development programme, Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake announced in Parliament.
The Minister said the Central Expressway, which is currently under construction, will be extended up to Galagedara, with plans to further connect the route to Gannoruwa in the future.
He also stated that work is underway to widen the Galagedara–Katugastota Bridge and construct two flyovers near the Peradeniya Bridge to ease traffic congestion.
In addition, the renovation of the old Peradeniya Railway Bridge is expected to be completed before the end of this year, allowing train services on the route to resume.
The Minister emphasized that these projects aim to reduce traffic congestion in Kandy and modernize the city's public transport system.
