Shares of AI-related companies around the world have fallen sharply following warnings from leading figures in the industry over the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology.
Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, recently said the pace of AI development should be slowed somewhat to allow more time to manage the risks that could arise from the technology.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and xAI head Elon Musk have also expressed agreement regarding the potential risks associated with AI development.
Meanwhile, a proposal has been put forward to make it mandatory for AI companies to have a “kill switch” capable of completely shutting down the technology if it reaches an extremely dangerous level.
Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark, along with a group of U.S. lawmakers, has reportedly proposed such a measure.
However, U.S. President Donald Trump has opposed the proposal, saying that warnings that AI could lead to the destruction of humanity are a hoax.
