The World Health Organization (WHO) has congratulated Sri Lanka for sustaining the elimination of maternal and neonatal tetanus for 10 years and maintaining its malaria-free status for a decade.
In a citation dated September 8, the WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia commended Sri Lanka’s continued commitment to public health and disease elimination.
According to the WHO, these achievements have been supported by strong national commitment, high-quality immunisation services, safe delivery practices and continued vigilance to prevent the re-establishment of malaria.
Sri Lanka has maintained its malaria-free status for 10 years since receiving WHO certification as a malaria-free country in 2016.
