Typhoon Dolphin, which formed over the open waters of the western Pacific Ocean, is currently affecting Japan’s southwestern Okinawa Prefecture, according to foreign media reports.
Classified as a Category 1 typhoon, Dolphin reportedly brought winds of up to 198 kilometres per hour.
Authorities have issued evacuation orders for nearly 260,000 residents in Kagoshima and Okinawa prefectures due to the storm.
More than 500 flights have also been cancelled as a result of the severe weather conditions.
The typhoon is expected to approach China’s eastern coast over the coming days.
Warnings have subsequently been issued for heavy rainfall and potential flooding in Shanghai, Zhejiang and Fujian, foreign media reports further stated.
