The death toll from catastrophic flooding in Nepal and China has surpassed 1,000, authorities said on Tuesday, as rescue teams continued efforts to reach communities cut off by the disaster.
Nepal’s disaster agency said on Tuesday that 987 deaths had been recorded in the country, while 3,916 people remained missing. The missing include 583 foreign nationals.
Meanwhile, Chinese authorities reported in their latest update on Sunday that 16 people had died and 546 remained missing. Among those missing were 261 foreign nationals.
Rescue teams are continuing operations to reach people stranded in areas that have been isolated by the devastating floods.
