Thirty-year-old beautician Renu Dhariyal from Uttarakhand, India, has set a new Guinness World Record as the living woman with the longest hair in the world.
Measurements conducted in the presence of Guinness World Records officials in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, recorded the length of her hair at 8 feet 11 inches, or 2.71 metres.
With this achievement, Renu has broken the previous record held by Ukraine’s Aliia Nasyrova, whose hair measured 8 feet 5 inches.
Renu said she has avoided cutting her hair for nearly nine years since 2015.
“In Indian culture, long hair is considered a symbol of beauty and heritage. The support of my family and my cultural influence gave me great strength to maintain this commitment,” Renu Dhariyal said.
She maintains her long hair with a special natural oil treatment once a week and spends several hours washing and drying it.
The longest hair ever recorded for a woman belonged to Xie Qiuping of China, whose hair measured 18 feet 5 inches. She is no longer alive.
Renu Dhariyal has therefore entered the Guinness World Records as the official holder of the record for the longest hair among women currently living.
