The sons of imprisoned former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan have accused the country’s army chief, General Asim Munir, of pursuing a personal vendetta against their father. They have also expressed serious concerns about his health and conditions in prison.
Imran Khan has been held at Adiala prison in Rawalpindi since his arrest in 2023 and is serving a 14-year sentence in a corruption case. His sons, Kasim Khan and Sulaiman Khan, say they have not been able to speak to their father for more than six months.
The brothers allege that Khan is being held in a small cell in isolation and has been denied adequate contact with family members and independent doctors. They have also raised concerns about his worsening eye condition and other health issues.
Pakistan’s Supreme Court had previously ordered that Khan be given treatment at a private hospital and allowed family visits and telephone contact with his sons. Legal proceedings have since arisen over the implementation of those orders.
The Pakistani government, however, has denied allegations that Khan is being mistreated, saying he has access to medical care and telephone contact with relatives.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the political party founded by Khan in 1996, is reportedly planning a nationwide march later this month demanding his release.
