A vessel travelling in the Red Sea caught fire following an attack, while all crew members on board remain safe, Saudi state media reported.

Yemen’s Ansar Allah, also known as the Houthi movement, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The incident comes after the Houthi group announced a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia.

Concerns have also increased over the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, another major global energy supply route, in addition to the ongoing crisis surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

According to maritime monitoring data, two Chinese oil tankers carrying four million barrels of Saudi crude oil are currently travelling through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait to exit the Red Sea.

The movement of these vessels is being closely monitored as a key test of how effectively the Houthi maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia will be enforced.

Earlier, the Houthi group had claimed responsibility for drone and missile attacks on two Saudi oil vessels.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz amid renewed US-Iran tensions, along with the Houthi maritime restrictions in the Red Sea, has created significant uncertainty for global energy supplies.
