Eleven people, including seven children and four women, have been hospitalised after suffering severe food poisoning following a birthday celebration in Maharashtra, India.
The victims reportedly developed severe abdominal and chest pain shortly after eating the birthday cake. As their condition worsened, they were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Health officials launched an investigation into the incident and discovered the remains of a dead lizard inside the birthday cake.
The discovery has raised serious concerns about hygiene and food safety practices at the bakery that produced the cake. Legal action has reportedly been taken against the establishment.
All those hospitalised are said to be recovering following medical treatment.
