China’s Foreign Ministry has rejected as illegal and invalid the new names issued by India for 27 locations in Arunachal Pradesh, a disputed border region.
India refers to the area as Arunachal Pradesh, while China claims it as part of southern Tibet. India announced new names for 27 locations in the region on the 7th.
India has said that officially naming the locations on maps could help provide the public with a clearer understanding of Arunachal Pradesh.
However, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun, speaking at a press conference on the 10th, said China does not recognise what it describes as India’s illegal establishment of Arunachal Pradesh.
China also stressed that the names assigned by India to the 27 locations are illegal and invalid.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson further stated that regardless of what steps India takes, China’s position that southern Tibet belongs to China will never change.
