The Colombo High Court has ordered that the case filed against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son Yoshitha Rajapaksa and his grandmother Daisy Forrest under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act be called on August 31 for a pre-trial conference.
The case was taken up today (16) before Colombo High Court Judge Rashmi Singappuli.
During the hearing, State Counsel Oswald Perera requested the court to set a date for the pre-trial conference.
The State Counsel informed the court that the prosecution’s position regarding the second accused, Daisy Forrest, and any amendments to the indictment would be presented on that date.
The Attorney General filed the case against the two accused, alleging that an offence under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act was committed by depositing nearly Rs. 59 million of illegally acquired funds into bank accounts.
