Three wild elephants entered Sigiriya town and knocked down a 200-foot boundary wall to gain access to a jackfruit tree inside a residential property, according to the homeowner.

The incident occurred at around 3.30 a.m., when the elephants reportedly broke through the wall, entered the garden and fed on the jackfruits.

Residents said they informed wildlife officials about the incident, but no officers arrived at the scene, allegedly citing the lack of a vehicle. They also noted that the house is located close to the Department of Wildlife office.

Local residents said they have been living under the constant threat of wild elephants for a long time. They warned that both residents and tourists visiting Sigiriya during the day and at night face a serious risk due to the frequent movement of wild elephants in the area.
