The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory warning about severe lightning.
The advisory, issued at 11.00 a.m. today (05), will remain valid until 1.00 a.m. tomorrow (06), the department said.
Accordingly, there is an increased likelihood of severe lightning accompanied by thundershowers in several places in the North Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Western, Southern and North Central provinces, as well as in the Mannar District, during the evening or night.
Temporary strong winds may also occur in the affected areas during thundershowers, the Department of Meteorology further said.
The public is therefore advised to take necessary safety precautions to minimise accidents and dangers caused by lightning.
