Water supply has been temporarily suspended in several areas of the Colombo and Gampaha districts due to an emergency situation that could affect water quality near the location where water is drawn from the Kelani River.
The National Water Supply and Drainage Board said the water supply from the Ambatale and Kelani South Bank water treatment plants to several areas in Colombo and Gampaha was suspended with immediate effect from the early hours of today (25).
The decision was taken following a notification from the Disaster Management Centre regarding an emergency situation near the Kelani River water intake that could affect water quality.
Necessary inspections and measures are currently being carried out, while the National Water Supply and Drainage Board said further information on restoring the water supply will be provided in due course.
The temporary suspension has been implemented as a precautionary measure to protect the health and safety of consumers.
