The Colombo High Court today (30) issued a warrant for the arrest and production before court of Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera, Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena organisation, who is accused of making a statement deemed insulting to Islam and the Holy Quran.
The case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Buddhika C. Ragala. The accused, Gnanasara Thera, was not present in court, while his sureties also failed to appear.
Attorney-at-Law Asoka Weerasuriya, who submitted a medical report stating that Gnanasara Thera was unwell, said representations had been made to the Attorney General seeking to conclude the case in a summary manner.
However, the High Court Judge noted that the medical report submitted was insufficient and that the sureties had failed to appear before court. Accordingly, the judge ordered that Gnanasara Thera be arrested and produced before court.
