The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning regarding severe lightning.
The advisory was issued at 10.00 a.m. today (14) and will remain valid until 11.30 a.m.
Accordingly, there is an increased risk of lightning in the North Central, North Western, Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces, as well as in the Ampara, Batticaloa and Mannar districts.
The Department of Meteorology said there is an increased possibility of severe lightning accompanied by thundershowers at several places during the evening or night in these areas.
It also warned that temporarily strong winds may occur during thundershowers. The public is therefore advised to take necessary precautions to minimize accidents caused by lightning and strong winds.
