A 36-year-old organised crime suspect who had reportedly been hiding in Dubai and was the subject of a Red Notice has been brought back to Sri Lanka early today (25).
The suspect was brought to the country by a team of officers including the Director of the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau. He is a resident of the Kalutara South area.
Police said the suspect was wanted in connection with several crimes, including murder, attempted murder, shootings, causing grievous injuries, arson, and aiding and abetting as well as conspiring in organised criminal activities.
He is reportedly wanted in connection with an incident in 2013 in the Hanwella Police Division in which a person was assaulted and injured with a sharp weapon. He is also linked to incidents in 2021 involving the setting fire to a lorry at a business premises in Neluwaththuduwa and a shooting outside the businessman’s residence that seriously injured a person and allegedly involved an attempt to murder.
Police further stated that the suspect was wanted over an incident in 2022 in which three people were seriously injured after being attacked inside a house in Hanwella, as well as for allegedly aiding and abetting and conspiring in connection with a murder in the Hanwella area in December 2022.
He is also wanted in connection with the shooting deaths of two people in Padukka in 2023 and several shooting and murder incidents reported in Hanwella and Neluwaththuduwa in 2024.
Among the incidents reported in 2025 are the shooting and injury of three people travelling in a three-wheeler in Kosgama, allegedly providing a T-56 firearm and 25 rounds of ammunition to another person, the shooting death of a former Pradeshiya Sabha member in Meegoda, and allegedly directing an incident in which a firearm was discharged into the air before the suspects fled.
Further investigations are expected into alleged drug trafficking, other organised criminal activities and assets suspected to have been acquired through illegal means.
