The leader of the Jana Seta Peramuna, Ven. Battaramulle Seelarathana Thera, has been assaulted in the Weeragula area, according to the Weeragula Police.
The monk, who sustained injuries in the attack, has been admitted to the Gampaha District Base Hospital, reports say.
The attack reportedly took place during a meeting held to discuss arrangements for a cremation ceremony at a temple.
The Weeragula Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
