President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said steps will be taken to remove the Value Added Tax (VAT) imposed on school textbooks. He said proposals to this effect will be included in the 2027 Budget.
The President made these remarks while addressing a political meeting held in the Nochchiyagama area yesterday.
He further said that the government is carrying out state administration while the country is recovering from the economic crisis. Although the economy has achieved stability, the country has not yet reached economic independence, he said.
Measures are being taken to achieve economic independence. More funds will be allocated through next year’s Budget to protect free education and free healthcare and to improve the efficiency of services provided to the public, the President said.
