The Ministerial Consultative Committee on Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education has focused on improving the quality of school education, filling teacher vacancies, streamlining teacher transfers and improving facilities at schools in difficult areas.
The matters were discussed when the committee met in Parliament under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
Particular attention was given to expediting the recruitment of new teachers to reduce shortages, especially in Science and Mathematics.
The committee also focused on identifying areas with teacher shortages and taking necessary measures to address the needs in those areas.
