Two 14-year-old schoolboys lost their lives after falling from the Knuckles Twin Waterfall while attempting to take a selfie during a bathing trip.

According to Panwila Police, five Grade 9 students of Knuckles Tamil Maha Vidyalaya had gone to the waterfall around 4.30 p.m. on July 22. While taking photographs, two of the students slipped and fell from the waterfall.

One student died at the scene, while the other succumbed to his injuries while being transferred from Madolkele Hospital to the Kandy National Hospital.

Police identified the deceased as B. Saljith and K. Dilon, residents of Knuckleswatte, Thawalanthenna.

The body of the student who died on the way to hospital has been placed at Katugastota Hospital. The bodies will be handed over to the relatives after the post-mortem examination. Panwila Police are conducting further investigations.
