Two inmates have died and two others were injured following a violent clash between a group of inmates at the Kuruwita Prison this morning, according to the Kuruwita Police.
Four inmates were initially injured during the unrest that broke out inside the prison. Police confirmed that two of them died after being admitted to hospital.
Prison officers used tear gas to bring the situation under control.
Kuruwita Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
