Two individuals have been arrested with stocks of illegal alcohol during separate raids conducted by police units.
The arrests were made by the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Unit and the Negombo Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau in separate operations.
On August 4, 2026, officers of the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Unit conducted a raid in the Clovius Mawatha area of the Moratuwa Police Division based on information received. A 60-year-old woman was arrested with 75 litres of illegal alcohol (100 bottles).
In another operation conducted on the same day evening in the Palangathuraya area of the Kochchikade Police Division, officers of the Negombo Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau arrested a 51-year-old man with 56 litres and 250 millilitres of illegal alcohol (75 bottles).
Police stated that the female suspect is a resident of Moratuwella, while the male suspect is a resident of Kochchikade.
Further investigations into both incidents are being conducted by the Moratuwa and Negombo Police Stations.
