A suspect and a woman have been arrested in connection with an attempted murder involving a shooting incident at Nisala Arana Cemetery in the Dehiwala Police Division.
The Western Province South Crime Division had launched investigations into the incident reported on 19 July 2026, where two unidentified individuals arriving on a motorcycle attempted to shoot and kill a person.
Based on information received by investigators, the alleged shooter and a woman suspected of assisting the crime were arrested on 2 August 2026 in the Mihintale Police Division.
Police have seized two mobile phones allegedly used for the crime, a travel bag, and two ATM cards linked to bank accounts where Rs. 280,000, believed to have been provided for carrying out the crime, had been deposited.
The arrested male suspect is a 47-year-old resident of Mihintale, while the female suspect is a 35-year-old resident of Polgasowita.
Another suspect who allegedly acted as the motorcycle rider during the crime was arrested on 26 July 2026 in the Delkanda area under the Mirihana Police Division and is currently in remand custody.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Western Province South Crime Division.
