Two suspects allegedly linked to the bombing that killed two children sleeping in a house on Kaudana Road, Dehiwala, and seriously injured their father were arrested yesterday (14) by a special police team from Mount Lavinia.
Investigations have revealed that the bomb attack was allegedly carried out by the uncle of an underworld figure known as Kosmalli and a member of his gang.
Special police teams searched several locations where the suspects were believed to have been hiding. However, a senior police officer said the suspects had already fled those locations.
Police suspect that a dispute between two underworld gangs led by underworld figures known as Kosmalli and Badowita Asanka was behind the attack.
According to investigators, the attack was allegedly intended to target a member of Badowita Asanka’s gang. However, the attackers reportedly went to the wrong house and mistakenly targeted the home of the intended target’s brother.
The elder brother of the man injured in the attack is reportedly an associate of Badowita Asanka and was allegedly the intended target. However, he was staying at a neighbouring house at the time, resulting in the wrong house being attacked.
Police said one of the two suspects arrested yesterday allegedly provided the attackers with a three-wheeler to travel to the location, while the other suspect allegedly repaired the three-wheeler for use in the attack.
