Two suspects were arrested in separate raids carried out by the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Strike Force and the Marawila Police over the possession of illegal liquor.
On the evening of 6 August 2026, officers of the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Strike Force conducted a raid in Paradise Watta, within the Pinwatta Police Division, and arrested a 43-year-old suspect from Wadduwa with 75 litres (100 bottles) of illegal liquor. The suspect was later handed over to the Pinwatta Police.
In a separate raid carried out the same morning in Naththandiya, Marawila Police arrested a 30-year-old suspect from Katuneriya with 75 litres (100 bottles) of illegal liquor and 1,215 litres of fermenting wash ("goda") stored in six barrels, allegedly intended for illicit liquor production.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Pinwatta and Marawila Police.
