Two suspects who were allegedly conducting illegal excavations inside a house in search of ancient artefacts have been arrested by the Damana Police.

The suspects were arrested along with excavation equipment during a raid conducted on July 30, 2026, evening, in the Mahanagapura area of the Damana Police Division based on information received by police officers.

The arrested suspects are residents of Mahanagapura and Wadinagala areas and are aged 35 and 45 years, police said.

Further investigations into the incident are being carried out by the Damana Police.
