A suspect and two female suspects have been arrested with heroin during a raid conducted by officers of the Giriulla Police Station.
On the morning of September 22, 2026, a team of Giriulla Police officers, acting on information that drugs were being transported in a car, pursued the vehicle from Giriulla town and attempted to stop and inspect it in Pannala.
Police said the occupants attempted to drive away despite police orders, allegedly putting the officers at risk. Police subsequently fired at one of the rear tyres of the vehicle.
As the occupants refused to unlock the doors for inspection, officers broke the glass of the front left door and removed a male suspect and two female suspects from the vehicle before conducting a search.
The search found 15.260 grams of heroin and Rs. 924,770 in cash, which was suspected to have been earned through drug trafficking. The three suspects were arrested along with the vehicle.
The male suspect is 36 years old, while the two female suspects are aged 39 and 16. They are temporary residents of the Nelumdeniya area, police said.
Based on information revealed by the suspects, investigators searched the house where they had been staying and recovered 62 grams of heroin, Rs. 1,680,000 suspected to have been earned through drug trafficking, 500 bottle caps allegedly used as packaging for drug distribution, a roll of transparent tubing and 2,235 plastic tubes.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Giriulla Police.
