A 17-year-old boy was stabbed while flying a kite in a paddy field in Kadawatha, and three suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, police said.

The victim sustained injuries to his neck and is currently receiving treatment at the Ragama Teaching Hospital.

According to police, the teenager was flying a kite in a paddy field behind his home when three youths arrived on motorcycles and allegedly carried out the attack.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident was triggered by a romantic relationship dispute.

The main suspect was apprehended by local residents and handed over to the police, while the other two later surrendered at the Kadawatha Police Station before being arrested.

All three suspects are due to be produced before the Mahara Magistrate's Court today (31). Further investigations are being conducted by the Kadawatha Police.
