Sri Lanka’s Supreme Court has decided to dismiss, without taking up for hearing, a fundamental rights petition seeking an order to invalidate a circular that permits men and women to change their gender.
The petition had named former Presidents Maithripala Sirisena and Ranil Wickremesinghe, along with current President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and several others as respondents.
The fundamental rights petition was filed by Shantha Jayathilaka, a retired disabled warrant officer of the Sri Lanka Air Force.
