Six suspects have been arrested for allegedly attempting to offer bribes to police officers in the Paranthan area of Kilinochchi.
The Police Media Division stated that the incident occurred on the morning of August 19, 2026, when a team of officers from the Kilinochchi Police Station was conducting vehicle inspections at a roadblock on the A9 Road in Paranthan.
Five tipper truck drivers who allegedly attempted to bribe police officers to avoid having their permits signed, along with another individual who allegedly attempted to bribe officers to avoid legal action against a tipper truck transporting sand without a permit, were arrested.
The suspects are aged between 25 and 37 and are residents of Mullaitivu, Palai, Dharmapuram, Visvamadu, Kilinochchi and Paranthan, police said.
The suspects were produced before the Kilinochchi Magistrate’s Court on August 19, 2026, and were released on personal bail of Rs. 300,000 each.
Kilinochchi Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
