Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amaraseena today (30) ordered that Sangeeth Jayasekara, who was arrested over the dissemination of false information claiming that an LTTE training camp and a bomb-making facility were located in the Palai Reserve in Kilinochchi, be further remanded until October 7.
The Police Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) informed court that the suspect, who had introduced himself as the Executive Director of the Intercontinental Human Rights Organisation, had made the allegedly false statement during a media briefing held at a hotel in Colombo on August 14.
Investigators informed court that their investigations had revealed that the suspect was in possession of three national identity cards and had allegedly prepared several other forged documents.
Police also informed court that although the suspect had claimed that a forest officer in the Kilinochchi area had provided him with the information, statements obtained from the relevant officer and his wife had confirmed that no such statement had been made.
Police further said that a detailed examination of the suspect’s telephone records and further investigations into the alleged use of forged identity cards are required.
After considering the submissions, the Magistrate ordered that the suspect be remanded until October 7.
