A letter is reportedly being prepared to be sent to Secretary-General of Parliament, Attorney-at-Law Kushani Rohanadeera, requesting the necessary facilities for Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna National Organiser and Parliamentarian Attorney-at-Law Namal Rajapaksa to attend the upcoming parliamentary sittings while in remand custody.
According to Lankadeepa, quoting party sources from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, the letter is scheduled to be sent to the Secretary-General of Parliament tomorrow.
Although Namal Rajapaksa is currently in remand custody, legal sources have reportedly pointed out that there is no legal impediment preventing him from attending parliamentary sittings.
Accordingly, Parliament is scheduled to meet from tomorrow (08) until September 11.
Namal Rajapaksa was arrested in connection with an alleged incident involving the acceptance of a bribe in relation to the Airbus deal. Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama subsequently ordered that he be remanded until September 18.
