The Department of Meteorology has issued a Red Warning for strong winds and rough seas for multi-day fishing boats operating in the deep-sea areas of the Bay of Bengal.
As of 5:30 a.m. today (23), the Deep Depression over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal was located near latitude 18.0°N and longitude 84.7°E, the department said.
The system is very likely to move west-northwestwards and cross the coastal areas of northern Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha in India tonight, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Wind speeds in the sea areas marked under the “Warning” category may increase to 70 kmph at times. Heavy thundershowers are also possible, while sea conditions in these areas are expected to become very rough.
Meanwhile, wind speeds in the sea areas marked under the “Advisory” category may increase to 55–60 kmph at times. Sea conditions in these areas may also become rough or very rough at times, the department said.
