Public Health Inspectors on Sick Leave Today

Public Health Inspectors across Sri Lanka are taking symbolic sick leave today (21) in protest against the transfer of a Public Health Inspector attached to the Health Office at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.

The Public Health Inspectors’ Association alleges that B.H. Meegasdeniya was transferred after raising objections to alleged illegal activities taking place at the Katunayake Airport Health Office.

The association says various inspections have been conducted by the Katunayake Airport Health Office for several years and that authorities have been informed on several occasions about alleged corruption, irregularities and misuse of public funds at the office.

The association states that a complaint was most recently submitted on July 12, 2026, through a letter bearing reference number PHIU/Sec/2026/42.

However, the Public Health Inspectors’ Association expresses concern that no investigation has been conducted despite authorities being repeatedly informed about the allegations.

The nationwide symbolic trade union action has been launched demanding the cancellation of Meegasdeniya’s transfer and an immediate investigation into the alleged irregularities highlighted by the association.
