The final rites of veteran singer and actor Priyankara Perera, who passed away yesterday (01), are scheduled to be held tomorrow (03) at the Borella General Cemetery, according to reports.
His remains are scheduled to be placed at a private funeral parlour in Colombo from this afternoon for public viewing.
Priyankara Perera, who had been suffering from an illness for some time, passed away last night after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. He was 64 years old at the time of his death.
He was the eldest son of the late veteran singer Milton Perera and the brother of singer Chalaka Chanupathi.
Priyankara Perera was a highly popular veteran singer in Sri Lanka’s music industry, particularly during the cassette era and throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
Following in his father’s musical legacy, he delighted music lovers with his melodious voice and contributed numerous memorable songs to Sri Lankan music.
Among his popular songs are Ran Pokunen Diya Nagen Enne, Sihina Dewduwe, Pissu Wikare, Agadha Sagare, Samanavi Ipadhi Divi Thalawe and Pera Athmayaka Eka Rathriyaka.
